Emancipated Youth Program, Creator and Instructor
In Laurette’s words:
“I teach financial literacy to young adults, because it’s not always taught to them at school. This program helps give youths information about money in the real world.
“On field trips, we visit banks, create budgets, and take a trip to an apartment building. All of these settings teach the importance of money management. When we are in the classroom, I bring inspirational speakers that directly reflect the community of students attending the class.
“When I ask, ‘If you had a million dollars what would you do?’ I usually get a surface answer, but we dig a little deeper to get the real answers during our time together.
“I teach youth financial responsibility, because I believe money doesn’t make the person you are.”
